I CAN ALWAYS CHANGE MY MIND. I'M A GROWNUP!

Fifteen years ago, after being a veteran of diabetes for 50 years, I was suddenly tired of doing all this.  I was having more difficulty with my blood sugars and was up to 5 shots a day.

I had just moved from New York City to Florida and was seeing a new doctor in Vero Beach.  At one of my appointments I said to him,

"I'm getting too tired of all this."

"How about trying the pump", he said.

"I don't know anything about it."

I had been very proud of dealing successfully for all these 50 years. I had not kept up with new things.  I also did not want to be involved in 'all that' . Looking back I believe I ignored the diabetic world because I didn't want it to be who I was.   I just did what needed to be done but suddenly.............I was tired.

I found out about the pump and it was all very interesting.  But....     I thought it would be such a lot of trouble to learn all over again just like a brand new diabetic.  I mean, after all, didn't I do well enough? Maybe not   I was beginning to have some visual problems and I was TIRED

Well, I hemmed and hawed for quite a while and then.............a light bulb moment!

I'M A GROWNUP NOW!  I can try a pump  and if I find it impossible or even don't like it,  I can always go back to the insulin injections. I can change my mind!   Well, what do you know?!

More about this next week..................Be well................

Writer's note:   I am fully aware that many diabetics do not have the advantage I had. Medicare and  insurance  made my choice possible.
