Marriage and Diabetic Challanges
The appointment I made with the representative from the airline mcahanic school never came to fruition. Ron decided -at the door- that he was not interested and the man never did come in. I There were many other things I learned that night; All the 'sharing' we had done as to what commonalities we had, all we talked about and agreed upon, the way Bob and I had done through our high school years, weren't really true. He said he told me what he thought would please me so I'd marry him.
I was still mad for him and we went on for another 25 years. We really did have a deep and abiding love for one another and I must say Ron loved me well. He was always there for me in our hard times. We drew closer together when we had our children and when two of our infant sons died. some people say these events can split a marriage but ours, because of Ron, I believe, grew closer .....
Some interests were not shared. Ron was not interested in going to church with me although he told me he was the same religion. which in my youth was very important to me. I used to sing in the choir, played the violin in high school (albeit last chair, last row) and loved to dance. I had had tap dancing lessons when I was young and refused offers to audition for the Radio City Rocketts in New York City when I was 18. I had my heart in nursing.
Ron was working as a mechanic for a auto place in Roosevelt, Long Island. He did well. He had many who respected his work because he was fast and accurate. He did brakes, wheel alignments, balance on cars and worked in a 'pit' when the cars pulled in over him. When the temperature went over 100 degrees in that pit, he was sent home. I don't recall if he was paid for the time out of the pit but I do remember we always were worried about money. But what young marrieds weren't in those days? This was the early 60's. We were having our families and working so hard.
Let me tell you about our beautiful children........in the next issue..... Michael.......Defender of the Angels.............
