These ideas of good food, diet, insulin and exercise have been the diabetic's mantra since Banting and Best. Why is it always being challenged? I'm proud to be an example of it.
My medical 'resume' has a full page of operations, deaths of 2 infants, some eye problems. Can you imagine if I had NOT been on insulin, diet and exercise? Quite frankly, life would have been worse! These life experiences could possibly have maimed me; i.e. loss of limbs, blindness, kidney problems. THAT'S what we want to stop. Healthy to me is having the best chance of a quality life. Insulin, diet and exercise are the elements that can stop the maiming, and really give us this healthy quality of life.
Physicians tend to tell you all the bad effects of diabetes as I have above and forget that it really IS possible to have healthy quality. It is! I'm the proof! Follow your doctor's advice. It IS worth it.
Note the picture. Dr. Oz says eating colorful foods is important. I try to do that. that has been mentioned in many diet programs as well.
So many of the newest diet advice for the general population appears to mimic the advise for diabetics. Perhaps if everyone ate as though they were diabetic, we would all be healthier.
